Well I’m back! Three times Commander, the last in 2004, and I’m back as YOUR Commander for a fourth time. I want to “get things going” at YOUR Post, but I need your help. It takes help to do all the things planned for this year, You don’t even need a calendar for some things. First Friday of the month is Ladies Aux. meal. Second and fourth Friday of month Shrimp dinners. Any fifth Friday is Steak dinner. Every Thursday (except 4th of July) night is a light fare meal (menu enclosed). May 30th is Memorial Day and the dedication of the Federalsburg Hometown Veterans Memorial is at 11am, at the corner of Veterans Dr. Memorial service is at 1:30 at Vets. Cemetery in Beulah. The Men’s Bike show is Sat. June 8. Department convention is at Ocean City June 3 – 6. Please try and make the convention (It’s FUN) and the Bike Show. Officers training is at Sparrow Point on the 22nd. Sunday June 16th is Father’s Day and the Post has a special Father’s Day afternoon planned. (SURPRISE).

July really gets things going. 4th of July Shorebirds game for Veterans. (Call for details)

21 – 24 National Convention in Louisville, KY. We have Charlie Long (opening entertainer for Ronnie Dove) on shrimp night the 26th. Charlie does a good show and has Karaoke.

We have a show to benefit Wounded Vets with Ronnie Dove in person on Aug. 24th (call for tickets) and Charlie Long again on Aug. 30th. Aug. 30 is steak night and gets Labor Day week-end started. Saturday and Sunday are “Battle of the Bands” with food, church service, movies, bon fire, and good FUN all weekend from Fri – Mon. We want RVs, tents, campers, anything you can stay in to be in OUR field for the entire week-end. This is a Hospice benefit. If you know a band that wants to win $1000.00 let me know. ASAP

When you come to me with an idea, and you start with “I think we should……”, Please don’t stop with your suggestion. Become part of the WE you talked about. There are too many good ideas started at “the bar” and end “at the bar” because nobody wants to follow through. If you have an idea, and are willing to be part of the WE, I will do my damnest to help get things going, as “part of the WE”. Please remember that “we” are not a club, but an organization. The VFW does stop at the end of our lane. “We” are not here to keep the “club” open, but to keep the organization going for the Veterans. Granted “we” have one of the finest places to socialize in the area. A place where even wives (many who are members), and children (many who are members) can go at anytime. Let’s keep things going for all of us. One member (Men’s Aux) saw a need, and went to work to beautify our Home. Maybe more members will become proactive, instead of reactive. We have a huge hall (and pavilion) available for rent to our members at a very low price. Mention our hall to folks who need a party or reception. The rental is even inexpensive to non-members.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the many blessings that God has given us over the 67 years the Post has been ACTIVE. Remember, the Post is here because of the service by Veterans of Foreign Wars. I hope, this year, to help the many Veterans who have served honorably in our Armed Forces. It’s just the RIGHT THING TO DO. God Bless our troops, and keep each one of them safe. Not only do we want each Veteran to come home, but want them to join their organization. I thank God that I have a loving Wife and Mother and Father that all believe in the VFW programs and fully (although reluctantly, at times) support me. At times, my calling as the Department Chaplain may take me away from our Post. I pray that someone will step-up and help out at these times.

Let’s all have FUN this year. Many hands make hard work easy. I thank each one who has helped this year. Please continue to support our Post. Come to a meeting---Please!

Well spring has arrived and we have all set our clocks ahead to enjoy daylight savings time. In this time of year we are getting very busy with the summer activities in which we are in need of the help from all of our membership.

We would like to thank everyone that came out to our CABIN FEVER DANCE and our CASINO NIGHT. The band, “REWIND” with Wayne Smith did one outstanding performance at the CABIN FEVER DANCE and they were liked by all. Our CASINO NIGHT went real well and if you missed it you will want to make sure that you don’t miss our next one. We had seven professional dealers that took off of work at the Harrington Slots and donated their time to help us support our veterans. A special THANK YOU goes out to Brian and his team. I would like to say Thank You to everyone that assisted in the construction of our four new casino tables. They really changed the appearance of our Casino Night. I would also like to thank our members and volunteers that helped with the set up and clean up for both events.

We have upcoming events that you won’t want to miss so mark your calendars for these events. Scheduled on April 6 we have our SPRING FLING DANCE from 8 to 12 with “DRINK DRANK DRUNK” band. We will be raffling off a Signed Guitar by the band that evening that was donated by Crazy Louie’s Pawn Shop for this event. Scheduled for April 9th we will be at Famous Dave’s in Salisbury with the motorcycle for the Bike Show. We will be selling tickets for the bike and the quilt and will have discount coupons for dinner that night. Anyone interested in going, Kenny Willis is willing to take his bus from the post. On April 25th thru the 28th we will be at Hooper’s Crab House in Ocean City with the bike and quilt. Our annual Poker Run will be held on May 11th this year. We are in need of volunteers for all of these events.

We must not forget our membership meetings that are held every month. The meetings will be on 14APR13 and 19MAY13 at 6:30 and will be held in the hall. Come out for your chance for 50/50 and a free drink and to see what we are all about. This is your chance to get involved and help us move forward for the benefit of our veterans. You will also be informed of upcoming events before they hit the website and the press so you can get it on your schedule to join us.

Always remember that there is strength in unity and together we can overcome. We are always looking for new members and volunteers of existing members to lighten the load of others. With this strength we can branch out and help more veterans in need and that is our mission so we depend on every member to do his part for the good of the order.

Bless Our Troops and Fallen Heroes
